I was first introduced to The Inn at Palmetto Bluff several years back, when I was working at Brides.com and happened to see the wedding photos of a couple who was married there. The event was truly beautiful, and I couldn't help being taken in by the lovely, Lowcountry property it was set against. Having just received the top spot in the U.S. News rankings of best hotels, the Inn is clearly a favorite to many, and its gorgeous location along the May River and charming guest cottages with distinctly Southern details like wide pine-planked floors and screened porches make it easy to see why.
There's a long list of distractions here, like horse back riding at the equestrian center, kayaking the river, or hiking the River Road Nature Preserve. Take a thirty-minute drive and explore the historical mansions of Savannah, Georgia or hit the beach on nearby Daufuskie Island. When you're ready for some downtime, spend an afternoon lounging by the property's pool, followed by a spa treatment and a dinner of Southern fare like buttermilk fried chicken or Carolina shrimp chowder at the waterside River House Restaurant.
