Winter is nearly here and with it, ski season. One of the spots I've loved skiing over the years is Heavenly, and I recently came across the Basecamp Hotel in South Lake Tahoe that's just a 4 minute walk to the Heavenly gondola. Basecamp is my favorite sort of hotel, a boutique property that's simple but well done, with creative of-the-place design. Accommodation types run the gamut, and include great options for friends and families like a bunk room and this very cool "Great Indoors" room (below) with a tent pitched over the bed, a picnic table and faux log fire. Rooms have smart extras, like racks to dry your gear, and the hotel also has a rooftop hot tub with mountain views, two fire pits to cozy around, communal dinners during ski season, a bar and daily breakfast.
