People are just so darned clever. Take the folks behind Haptic Lab, a self-described "group of artisans, designers and tinkers" making incredible things in their Brooklyn studio.
Among their signature products are these gorgeous, hand-stitched city quilts, portraying street grids of cosmopolitan spots like New York City, San Francisco, L.A. and New Orleans. I love the subtlety of the pattern on the soft, white cotton (if you ask they can hand-embroider a few special details, like a wedding date, too).
They've also started making coastal quilts representing seaside areas across the country, from the rugged coast of Maine to the fjords of Washington. And, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these quilts goes toward the NRDC's Biogems program to help protect North and South America's wild lands.
